The historic “Timon Coup” speech, delivered by the Supreme Commander, Hugo Chávez, on October 20, 2012, served decisively to sustain popular resistance in the face of adversity, said the Minister of Science and Technology, Yván Gil.
The holder of the scientific and technological portfolio emphasized, through a publication on his Telegram channel, that this strategic commitment to strengthening Popular Power, communes and self-government not only allowed us to face complex moments, but also continues to inspire current efforts to promote the country's socio-economic, scientific, technological and cultural development.
That message constituted a turning point for the Bolivarian process, presenting a profound reflection and a severe exercise of self-criticism. During his speech, Chávez - as Gil recalled - directly pointed out the failures of government management, warned of the dangers of bureaucracy and corruption, and warned that the distancing of officials from the popular base represented a deviation from the socialist and emancipatory project.
