The president of Honduras, Xiomara Castro, reiterated this Wednesday that global capitalism is the “main destroyer of natural resources and oppressor of the living conditions of humanity”, as several leaders in Latin America have already denounced.
During his participation in the 79th session of the General Assembly of the United Nations (UN), Castro emphasized that neoliberal and privatizing policies “continue to deteriorate peoples' access to water and energy services, health, work, education and social security.”
Regarding the free trade agreements imposed on the region by the United States (USA), he pointed out that “they violate sovereignty and nullify the possibilities of our producers to compete on equal terms, causing the cost of living to rise every day.”
On the other hand, the Honduran president denounced that her government is being attacked by imperial factors because of the structural changes she promotes for the benefit of the people.
In this regard, he stressed that he does not accept that 10 powerful families in Honduras are the ones who claim to have economic power in the country to try to put an end to their government.
