Since 2001, every country has celebrated the World Day of Science for Peace and Development every November 10, proclaimed by the General Conference of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), in order to recall the commitment made to raise awareness about the importance of science in society, for the benefit of lasting peace and sustainable development.
The main objective of this celebration is to encourage countries around the world to work on science for the eradication of poverty, human security and for global awareness of the importance of science.
To this end, in each country, various activities are being carried out to promote development and the improvement of prospects for peace. It is a day that highlights the great contribution of science and technology to helping to reduce poverty, while protecting the environment and improving the quality of life of the population worldwide. In addition, initiatives are being developed dedicated to young people and children so that from an early age they learn and understand the importance of social commitment for science and development.
Every year Venezuela joins this commemoration because of the contributions promoted by the Bolivarian Revolution in Science and Technology that have contributed to reducing poverty, while protecting the environment and improving the quality of life of the Venezuelan population, and recognizes that this day is an opportunity to reflect on the commitment and responsible use of Science for Peace and the Development of Humanity.
