This Friday, nearly 30,000 employees of the American aeronautical company Boeing suspended their work, following the company's first strike in 16 years.

Sputnik explained that through the North American press, workers at the firm's plants in Seattle and Oregon, both located in the northwestern United States, are seen accompanied by signs that read: “On strike against Boeing”.

95 percent of Boeing employees who belong to the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers union voted in favor of the strike demanding a 40 percent wage increase, which management resisted.

Boeing had offered a 25 percent increase over a four-year period that would have meant compensation of up to $4,160 per worker.

The company also agreed to cover a larger share of healthcare costs, provide 12 weeks of paid parental leave and make improvements to work-life balance, including reductions in mandatory overtime.

On August 28, a tire exploded unexpectedly on a Boeing 757 aircraft operated by Delta Air Lines at Atlanta Airport, killing two workers and seriously injuring a third.
