Along with his fellow fighters on February 4, 1992, the first vice-president of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), Diosdado Cabello, led the commemorative events corresponding to the Day of National Dignity.
During the event, Cabello recalled that on that historic date many soldiers from the military youth joined without knowing about the popular rebellion. “In 4F, most of us were young people, the oldest would be 35, and we left that day and what happened here in Venezuela was a real anti-imperialist rebellion (...) We participated in a necessary military rebellion, essential for the country to take another path. A popular rebellion, because it is enough to see these faces and we will be seeing the faces and faces of any comrade of the people, we are people,” he said.
He stressed that “it was the People who were asking for the release of the soldiers of the 4F, we communicated with our People and they were moving. We are not mercenaries, we are Bolivarian soldiers.”
“The soil of the Homeland is sacred for any soldier and even more so for a Bolivarian one. It boils your blood that North American imperialism feels that it has the power to appoint a president in Venezuela and that someone can accept that president, or that they want to determine how the elections and their candidates are held. Is North American imperialism in Venezuela? That's what we rose up against,” he said.
He stressed that after these events, “the story that we continue to write opened up to us, together with this great man, Commander Hugo Chávez, an extraordinary human being, a heart to give, a love for the Fatherland like no one else, an absolute detachment, so detached he was that he gave his life”.
He stressed that today the Commander does not physically accompany us, but he is present in each of us. “Every day we remember something; and when they have a problem I recommend them, so far I think it has worked for me (...) let's ask ourselves what Chávez would do in a given situation and there we will find the answer to continue moving forward in unity, always along the path of Commander Chávez.”
In that regard, he specified that Chávez left the marked path. “That is the route, at the head of this ship is President Nicolás Maduro , we as soldiers of February 4th accompanied Nicolás Maduro on this journey and in addition to taking the ship to a good port, to a safe port, leaving our people, a free, sovereign and independent people,” he said.
In addition, he specified everything he had to resist Venezuela and that “whoever believes that these last few years have been easy is far from reality... How many storms has President Maduro had to face, without a pulse and without despair? It's very easy to judge from the sidelines.”
For this reason, he emphasized the importance of the unity of the revolutionary forces in order to continue resisting. “Let no one try to divide the revolutionary forces, because at this point they are not going to succeed, on the contrary, every attack must consolidate us even more (...) None of us have a turning back here, and when they come for us they must find us united, to defeat them again, whatever they call themselves, wherever they come from,” he said, recalling that the Commander was the one who inspired them in this dream.
In addition, he highlighted the also necessary civic-military union. “We know today that thanks to February 4th, our Army and our people will go together wherever we turn and when I say Army, I mean our Bolivarian National Armed Force (FANB) (...) civic-military union was decreed, concretized and consolidated as the main strength of a political project, which is a revolution, which is a reality”.
“Let's stay united, let's accompany President Nicolás Maduro in this hard task that has befallen him, everyone from where it belongs (...) The story is just beginning to be written and today, 32 years later, he agrees with the soldiers who left together with Chávez on February 4 (...) let's go now at 60 years old, but with an intact spirit to walk with the People, to merge in an embrace for now and forever, with Chávez and with the Homeland for whatever comes out”, urged the revolutionary leader.
On the other hand, Cabello specified that together with Jesús Suárez Chourio, they will also present a proposal for activities to President Nicolás Maduro, to maintain more contact with their colleagues on February 4 and not just on the corresponding dates.
