This Thursday, the director general of the World Health
Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Gebreyesus, described the conditions in the Gaza Strip as
hellish and called for a ceasefire and a
“real solution” to the current Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
During the
meeting of the agency's Executive Committee, the director general of WHO said
that about 26,000 people were killed, with 70% of the
victims being women and children.
In this regard, he expressed concern
about the increase in deaths because the injured and people
suffering from chronic diseases do not receive any medical services.
“War
does not provide a solution, but rather more war, more hate, more agony, more destruction.
So let's choose peace and resolve this issue politically,” Tedros
said, stressing that “I think all of you have
referred to the two-state solution, among other things, and I hope that this
war will end and that we will move towards a real solution.”
In addition, he warned of increasing risks of epidemics, famine and starvation in Gaza because the health service there is “destroyed”. “If we're looking for a solution, it's always possible,” he said.
