WHAT IS FASCISM?

(NOTES ON FASCISM: Luis Brito García and Julio Cortázar + WHAT TO DO? , November 20-26, 1975)

At a time when fascism reappears with new faces and its different variants become visible in some characters of the Creole opposition, it is when decisive action must be taken to eradicate it. Although the one we are facing is mimicked, masked and uses every means to confuse, its contradictory expressions are always the same:

  • Fascism murdered Víctor Jara, Antonio Gramsci, García Lorca and Matteoti; it killed Manuel Hernández in prison and Antonio Machado and Manuel de Falla in exile.
  • Fascism, per se, is anti-intellectual. All the avant-gardes of the last century were progressive: relativity, expressionism, dadaism, cubism, existentialism, constructivism. Fascism treated all these manifestations of art as “Degenerate Art”. “When I hear about culture, he pulled out my gun,” Göering said.
  • The economic crisis is the mother of fascism, which is why it causes them, promotes them, builds them to destroy the privileges of the working class and preserve their own.
  • Fascism ignores and rejects the class struggle. The fascist is the armed wing of capitalism, he terrorizes the lower middle class and marginality with the fear of the economic crisis and enlists them as paramilitaries to reduce social movements by brute force.
  • Fascism is born of fear, is racist and encourages social hatred to destroy any progress for the good of the community. Superiority, aggressiveness and contempt is their credo.
  • Fascism usurps the revolutionary programs and slogans of socialism. It disguises itself as popular.
  • Fascism gives carte blanche to intolerance to allow the lawlessness of its agents.
  • Fascism is misogynistic, it always ignores the value and preponderance of women.
  • Fascism abhors popular wisdom and denies the collective ingenuity of Peoples.
  • Fascism is supremacist, it always considers the other, the one who is different, as inferior.
  • The fascist is pessimistic, for him there are no utopias or projects for social improvement, there is no future of humanity, there are only men who deserve to live.
  • The fascist is flattering, he drags himself in the face of the brute force of an imperial aggressor and he slavish justifies it as a lackey.
  • Fascism blames its victims for all the abuses, violence, aggression and torture it commits.
