This Monday, January 27, the first vice-president of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), Diosdado Cabello Rondón, led the red awning press conference in which he highlighted issues of national interest such as the call for elections for April 27.

In this regard, he stressed that in view of the election process, convened by the National Electoral Council (CNE), the PSUV and the Youth of the PSUV will hold a special session of their Congress on February 4.

  • “We announced the country and the militancy, we have decided to convene for February 4 the Congress of the PSUV and the JPSUV for a special session to, from the party, make our proposal for the election of the candidates of the Revolution and take them to the elections of April 27.”
  • “This would be election number 32, it is said to be quick and we don't put the consultations in there (...) hardly anyone can do what is being done in Venezuela with a profoundly democratic, participatory and leading character.”
  • “This call is made in accordance with the provisions of the rules, statutes, programmatic bases and regulations of the PSUV.”
  • The candidates for the red awning will be men and women with some conditions already determined, such as: “being Venezuelans, revolutionaries, anti-imperialists, defenders of the legacy of Supreme Commander Hugo Chávez, of ethical and moral recognition”.
  • “These elections on April 27 are a step towards consolidating peace in the coming years.”
  • “We will not cease on the path of elections and the Constitution... The Constitution is going to be 26 years old and there are things that have changed, one of the things the People's Power, the popular organization.”
  • “Aspiring candidates cannot have been convicted of any criminal offence or disqualified or disqualified by the Office of the Comptroller General of the Republic, it is a rule that we have been applying. To maintain impeccable conduct and not to have engaged in the promotion of hatred, intolerance, discrimination, treason to the Fatherland, as well as fascist, neofascist positions or similar expressions and any other conduct that affects the interests of the nation”.

He also reaffirmed that the PSUV is ready to participate in the elections of April 27 and obtain a new popular victory.

  • “There are people who are afraid of elections, there are people who like the path of violence, they have never had the electoral issue as their goal. We Chavistas inform that we are ready, in compliance with the provisions of the regulations and the Constitution, to actively participate in these elections.”
  • “Sunday, April 27, will be the elections and whoever doesn't have espadrilles should buy them because Joropo is coming.”
  • “These elections are not made by any parallel or criminal organization that the fascist sector of the Venezuelan opposition is used to.”
  • “Then we'll see you in April, whoever has the votes who wins.”

He highlighted the participation of a large number of political parties in the legislative and regional elections to be held on April 27.

  • “The elections, already announced by the CNE, will take place whether or not the fascist extreme right wants it. Already here, after what we have seen, experienced, fought and overcome, what fascism is capable of, in truth they remain as something inconsequential”.
  • For the democratic day, “37 political organizations plus all the social movements that do not live in political organizations, but that when it comes to exercising the vote go and exercise the vote in these political organizations” have announced their participation.
  • “The extreme right will always bet on violence (...) Let them not go, but the people of Venezuela go. We must remind that extreme right that they have become their own instrument of destruction.”
  • The vast majority of extremist leaders who have gone through the record of violence “are living comfortably outside of Venezuela.”
  • María Corina Machado, “who offered villas and castles to her followers and has not fulfilled a single one (...) each time a new lie and there are people who unfortunately believe it”.

In addition, he emphasized that the PSUV will be activated throughout the country to accompany the National Popular Consultation this Sunday, February 2.

  • “We have the Consultation on the 2nd and the party is now active, UBCH, streets, communities, municipal, parish, state political teams and the National Directorate to push for the Consultation of the Community Circuits, to actively participate this February 2.”
  • Venezuela is moving forward in “a true, real democracy, a popular democracy”.
  • “Those who have been calling for violence are once again left with the frizzy facts and hopefully those who have expressed their intention to participate do so, the doors are open to everyone, a new historic day in Venezuela, elections, for a change.”
  • “Hardly anyone can do what is being done in Venezuela with a profoundly democratic, participatory and leading character.”

On the other hand, Cabello highlighted the importance of the Peoples of America coming together and establishing a firm position on imperial aggressions, referring to the recent convening of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) for a summit to address the issue of migration. In turn, he mentioned the scam of the extreme right with Erik Prince.

  • “As a whole, a firm position of the Peoples of Our America, of the Great Homeland, not just against aggressions against any member.”
  • Venezuela has a history of attack, of blockade, of sanctions, of persecution and the best response we have always given is dignity, integrity, respect for sovereignty, for our sovereignty, for our independence.”
  • “'Hopefully an answer will come out there, united in agreement.”
  • Erick Prince took that money and stole it himself. We told him how many times, that he was cheating, the good thing is that now those lists are available to anyone, those who donated money that list is there, they donated money for a military intervention in Venezuela and we have what is due to us, of those who expressed their open support.”
  • “Since that September 16, when this 'Almost Venezuela' campaign began, selling terror to people and then no one assumes, those reais were stolen (...) this is no surprise from the opposition sector.”
