The Minister of Popular Power for Culture, Ernesto Villegas, reported that a joint commission made up of members of the permanent committees for Culture and Recreation and Integral Social Development of the National Assembly (AN), will promote the partial reform of the Law on the Protection and Defense of Cultural Heritage.

“Our subject must be the people, who have cultural rights, and not the cultural bureaucrats. This right of the people is what guides us, it is what motivates the cultors and it is what must move the institutionality,” he said, stressing the need to adapt these laws to the Bolivarian Constitution of Venezuela, which enshrines the principle of the participation of the people.

In addition, according to information from Venezolana de Televisión, the members of the commissions will study and deepen this reform to also adjust the legal instrument to the National Transformation Plan (Plan 7T).

In the same way, he indicated that reforms will be carried out to the Social Protection Act for Cultural Workers, the National Cinematography Act , the Law on the Social System of Books and Reading; the Law on Public Services of Library Networks, the Act on the Arts of the Image and Space, among other statutes of the cultural sector.

It should be noted that the Law for the Protection and Defense of Cultural Heritage aims to establish the principles that govern the defense of the Republic's Cultural Heritage, with emphasis on its research, rescue, preservation, conservation, restoration, revitalization, and everything that requires its cultural, material and spiritual protection.
