Venezuelan shooter Wilfre Paz won the bronze medal in the Category A Men's Foil event at the 2026 Adapted Fencing Championship of the Americas, held at the Brazilian Paralympic Training Center in São Paulo, the Venezuelan Fencing Federation (FVE) reported.
With this result, the athlete reaffirms the projection of national adapted fencing at the continental level and consolidates his path on the qualification route regulated by World Para Fencing for the 2028 Los Angeles Paralympic Games, which will be held in the United States.
During the qualifying phase and in the direct elimination brackets, Paz stood out for his biomechanical precision applied to the static competition framework. When competing in Category A, reserved for athletes with full or almost complete trunk mobility and good control of the combat arm, the shooter executed highly complex tactical combinations.
As there was no linear movement on the track as in conventional fencing, the Venezuelan mastered minimum distances through trunk rotation and speed in the extension of the armed arm. He also showed precision in stops and answers to score valid touches on the trunk, and excelled in defense and quick counterattacks in the final rounds.
The championship awards a crucial score for the World Para Fencing Paralympic world ranking. Paz's action, backed by the Venezuelan technical delegation, positions the country's wheelchair fencing among the region's elite and closes a positive day in Brazilian territory.
