In this regard, he highlighted the example, highlighted Recio as an extraordinary human being, “his friendship and example of integrity are like a treasure to me,” he emphasized.

Born in Caracas on July 7, 1962, he was shot and wounded during the events of April 11, 2002, where with the lens of his camera he managed to record images for history of the coup d'etat against Commander Hugo Chávez perpetrated by the Venezuelan right on orders from the United States.

During an interview on the Program Here with Ernesto, he reported that it was approximately four o'clock in the afternoon (April 2002) when he was shot. “I had already threatened to retire, because I had been there since one o'clock in the afternoon. Destiny, that's what they call it, because I don't know if it was such a good decision to stay a while longer. Still, I think I would have done it again.”

Recio once showed interest in suing the United States government to give up its traditional attitude of meddling in the internal affairs of other countries. “A lot of people say that mine is an anti-American attitude, and I say that the history of the last 150 years of the United States is full of interventions in other countries.” He later added that “every time a document is declassified in Washington, a new invasion appears.”

This renowned photographer represented Venezuela at the 59th Venice Art Biennial with a photographic exhibition related to the tragic events of April 2002.
