A delegation from the National Assembly (AN), led by Jorge Rodríguez, met with the Secretary General of the World Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), Anda Filip, in Geneva, Switzerland, to present a report on the situation in the country and to discuss the scope of this first meeting, after the reincorporation of Venezuela as a full member of the organization.
The head of Parliament explained that the meeting served to take stock of national dialogue, the preservation of political rights and the legal reforms necessary to overcome the polarization of the past. In this context, he highlighted the diversity of national representation. “It is very good news that the Venezuelan parliament, plural because this delegation is plural, becomes the epicenter of the changes and transformations that Venezuela is experiencing,” he said.
Rodríguez also indicated that the multilateral organization shared its vision of events in the country.
The parliamentarian recalled that five years ago the Venezuelan delegation went to that same instance to request his re-entry. “We want to inform all of Venezuela of the good news that at the last 153rd general assembly of the interparliamentary union that took place in Tanzania two months ago, it was approved that Venezuela will once again become a full member,” Rodríguez said during the meeting.
It is expected that in the afternoon there will be working groups where the Venezuelan delegation will participate to continue with the established agenda.
