Venezuelan athlete David Linares won one gold medal and two silver medals in the four-by-four of the World Youth Weightlifting Championship 2026, which takes place in Cali, Colombia.

The champion of the 2025 South American Youth Games in the 63 kg division began his brilliant performance in the starting mode with a first movement of 118 kg to dominate the race. Later, he raised the load to 121 kg and culminated in a 123 kg lift to secure the gold medal.

The Russian Sergei Planikov escorted him with a record of 122 kg, while the third rung was left to the Georgian Giorgi Kinkladze with 120 kg.

The fight for the absolute championship focused on the two-stroke mode, where the Venezuelan took the lead in his first attempt with 143 kg followed by Planikov with 142 kg. However, Linares failed the second move when trying to lift 150 kg, allowing the Russian to take the lead with a valid attempt on the same load.

Planikov then increased to 153 kg to close his participation in the event and win the gold medal. For his part, Linares increased the weight to 151 kg and secured the silver medal, followed by the Georgian Kinkladze weighing 144 kg.

In the Olympic total, the sum left Linares with the silver medal when he reached 274 kg. The gold medal went to the Russian Planikov, who dominated the competition with a total of 275 kg, while the bronze went to the Georgian Kinkladze with 264 kg.
