Venezuela wins silver and bronze medals at the 2024 World Youth Physicists Olympiad in Indonesia

The Venezuelan delegation, made up of students Mireya Bermúdez, Mariangel Villamizar and Gabriela Monasterios, won a silver medal and two bronze medals at the World Young Physicists Olympiad (WYPO) 2024 World Young Physicists Olympiad (WYPO), held in Bali, Indonesia.

The information was disseminated by the sector vice-president of Science, Technology, Education and Health, Gabriela Jiménez Ramírez, through her Telegram channel, where she indicated that the Venezuelan team participated online from Caracas, in category A of this international competition.

This achievement consolidates a policy for the training of children and young people with the National Scientific Seed Program implemented by the Ministry for Science and Technology.

Mariangel Villamizar, 15, won the silver medal, while students Mireya Bermúdez and Gabriela Monasterio, 16, won the bronze medal in the category.

Jiménez explained that the exam lasted four hours and had two phases, where the criollas solved the problems of multiple and variable options, up to essays on the theory of refraction and movement trajectory, among others.

This international competition is promoted by the Organizing Center of the STEM Olympiad, with the objective of fostering a positive attitude, especially in terms of critical and scientific thinking, through problem solving.
