Venezuela sends condolences to Suriname for the death of former president Desiré Delano Bouterse

Through an official statement, published by the Minister of People's Power for Foreign Affairs, Yván Gil Pinto, the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela expressed its condolences for the death of Desiré Delano Bouterse, former president of Suriname .
Below is the full text of the statement:
The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela expresses its deepest regret at the death of Desiré Delano Bouterse, former president of Suriname, whose leadership left an indelible mark on the history of his country and of our region.
Former President Bouterse was a man deeply admired by Commander Hugo Chavez, who recognized in him a courageous leader committed to the sovereignty and development of his people. His vision of justice and self-determination consolidated a solid relationship of brotherhood and cooperation with Venezuela, reflected in initiatives such as the strengthening of energy and cultural exchange.
His legacy includes significant contributions to Latin American and Caribbean unity, highlighting his role in the founding of CELAC and his contribution to the consolidation of UNASUR. He was a courageous leader who lived his historic mission intensely, leaving lasting inspiration for generations to come.
Venezuela accompanies the people and Government of Suriname at this difficult time, as well as the Bouterse family, honoring those who worked tirelessly to strengthen Bolivarian ideals in the Caribbean and South America.
