In an official statement, the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela rejected “categorically the absurd farce that the Chilean government intends to mount before the International Criminal Court, based on lies and falsehoods that only exist in the imagination of those who have decided to make foreign policy a show of poor quality.”

The letter was published on the Telegram channel of the Foreign Minister, Yván Gil, and prays that Venezuela is a country that can give lessons on respect for human rights and the dignity of peoples and we will not accept attacks from those who have made institutional violence a daily practice and now try to divert attention from their own miseries with gross political maneuvers.

Below is the full text of the statement:

The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela categorically rejects the absurd farce that the Chilean government intends to mount before the International Criminal Court, based on lies and falsehoods that only exist in the imagination of those who have decided to make foreign policy a show of poor quality, following the political line against Venezuela of the late Sebastián Piñera, in the best Pinochet style of creating false flag operations.

Attempting to bring an isolated case, fueled by lies, to the ICC is not only legally unsustainable, but it reveals supine ignorance about the functioning of the international system and the Rome Statute. The ICC is not a court that ventilates the fanciful fables of imbecile politicians, nor is it a stage for media montages. It is clear that the Chilean authorities do not have the slightest idea of how these mechanisms operate, or worse, that they are simply willing to distort them to align with interests outside the justice system.

Not only does this position lack legal basis, but it is also based on a vicious hatred against Venezuela, evidencing the desperation to satisfy agendas ordered by the United States that seek to erode the sovereignty of States. Chile, instead of lending itself to shameful maneuvers, should focus on its own serious internal problems, including the systematic violation of the human rights of the Mapuche people and the repression of social protest.

Venezuela is a country that can give lessons on respect for human rights and the dignity of peoples. We will not accept attacks from those who have made institutional violence a daily practice and are now trying to divert attention from their own miseries with gross political maneuvers.
