The Venezuelan Foreign Minister, Iván Gil, rejected the new measures announced by the US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, and denounced the efforts of this official to take action against the island.
“Venezuela stands in solidarity with Cuba, in the face of the sick obsession launched against it by the U.S. State Department. Reinstating the so-called “Restricted List” is a useless act of revenge against a people that has demonstrated, over and over again, that it does not bow to blackmail or pressure,” Gil wrote on his account on the social network Telegram.
He added that the State Department for more than six decades has tried everything: blockade, sanctions, aggression, sabotage and even terrorism. “Nothing has helped them. Cuba is still standing, resisting and winning,” he stressed.
He also pointed out that this hatred is not only against Cuba, it is against the example it represents: “a sovereign country that, despite all the adversities imposed, has been able to establish itself as a world reference for dignity, capable of sending doctors instead of soldiers and that demonstrates that sovereignty cannot be negotiated,” he said.
He reiterated that if aggressions intensify, the peoples of America will not stand idly by. “Solidarity with Cuba is not an option, it's an unwavering commitment,” he criticized.
