Last Wednesday, October 21, the planet's digital infrastructure suffered a severe shock after the “PHP2Shell” vulnerabilities were revealed. With a critical risk score of 9.2, these flaws affected the PHP language, the engine that powers more than 70% of the world's web pages, including popular platforms such as WordPress and Drupal.

Faced with episodes such as “PHP2Shell” and the rise of AI, Venezuela is making progress in building a sovereign regulatory framework.

Through the Ministry of Science and Technology (MINCYT) and the National Assembly, the country promotes regulations and legislation on artificial intelligence and cybersecurity to establish standards for ethical use and protect the country's data.

According to a MINCYT press release, Venezuelan technological development is governed by clear principles: science must be at the service of peace and life, based on fundamental documents such as the Code of Ethics for Life.

“Scientific and technological development must be guided by ethical principles that guarantee the defense of life, respect for human dignity, equity, social justice and the preservation of the ecological balance and security of the Nation, preventing the use of new technologies from violating the sovereignty or peace of peoples,” says the Code of Ethics for Life.

In addition, through the heads of the Great Science, Technology and Innovation Mission Dr. Humberto Fernández-Morán, it is established that the use of advanced technologies must guarantee the security of the Homeland without violating sovereignty.

Faced with threats in cyberspace, Venezuela prioritizes computer sovereignty through the use of free technologies, technical training to generate replacement in the country's laboratories and the constant updating of the State's infrastructure, reaffirming that prevention and scientific knowledge are the main defense tools.
