A delegation from Venezuela, composed of authorities and technicians from the Ministries of People's Power for Ecosocialism and for Foreign Affairs, is participating in the 29th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations (UN) Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), which is being held in the city of Baku, Azerbaijan.
At the meeting, which represents a new opportunity for leaders of nations to accelerate action to address the climate crisis, the Venezuelan representation has a stand that shows the actions of the South American country in environmental matters.
With global temperatures reaching record levels and extreme weather events affecting people around the world, COP29 brings together once again leaders of governments, companies, scientists, indigenous peoples and society in general, to find concrete solutions to the most important problem of the moment, says a press release from the Ecosocialism portfolio.
A key theme of COP29 will be funding, because a lot of money is required for nations to drastically reduce greenhouse gas emissions and protect lives and livelihoods from the growing effects of climate change.
COP29 will be key for countries to submit their updated national climate action plans under the Paris Agreement, which must be delivered in early 2025.
