The Minister of Popular Power for Foreign Affairs of Venezuela, Yván Gil, participated this Wednesday, in Tehran, in the funeral ceremony of the Iranian president, Seyed Ebrahim Raisi, who changed scenery on May 19 due to a helicopter accident in the province of East Azerbaijan.

The State funeral, where leaders, foreign ministers and political representatives from different parts of the world are present, is headed by Mohamad Mojber, who was first vice-president in Raisi's Cabinet and now, based on Article 131 of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Iran, is the acting president.

Previously, the supreme leader of the Persian nation, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, presided over a prayer to say goodbye to Raisi and the other seven killed in the accident, including Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian.

Likewise, Khamenei held a procession in the city surrounded by thousands of people who still remain in the streets mourning their leader, who left a great legacy for the construction of a new world order and played a decisive role in the defense of the Palestinian people.

The President's remains will be transferred to the province of South Khorasan and from there, to Mashhad - Raisi's hometown -, where he will be buried this Thursday in the midst of national mourning decreed for five days.

Relations between Caracas and Tehran were officially established on August 9, 1950. With the arrival of the Bolivarian Revolution in 1999, the bonds of brotherhood and cooperation were strengthened and reached a level of strategic alliance.

In 73 years of effective solidarity to face the illegal unilateral coercive measures imposed by the United States and its international partners, both parties have concluded agreements for mutual development, in oil, petrochemical, gas, scientific, technological, agricultural, academic, commercial and cultural matters.

The President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro Moros, said that he is overcome with “great pain for having to dismiss an exemplary person”, an “extraordinary leader of the world”, an “excellent human being, defender of the sovereignty of his people and an unconditional friend” of Venezuela.
