Venezuela is participating this Tuesday, September 10, in the meeting of the BRICS group (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) at the level of senior security officials, which is taking place in St. Petersburg, Russia.

In his account on the social network Telegram, the Foreign Minister of the Republic, Yván Gil, said that on behalf of the Bolivarian Government, “the Secretary of the National Defense Council, José Adelino Ornelas Ferreira, is participating today in the meeting of BRICS+ Senior Officials dedicated to National Security issues, which is taking place in St. Petersburg, Russia.”

“Our country's participation in this meeting represents a significant step towards full membership and the beginning of a new phase in Bolivarian Peace Diplomacy, which will translate into a boost to national development,” he said.

The meeting, which ends this Thursday, September 12, will be attended by the Chinese Foreign Minister, Wang Yi, while India will be represented by the national security advisor, Ajit Doval, Kremlin spokesman Dmitri Peskoc said.

Also, at the BRICS + meeting, the presence of the Serbian Deputy Prime Minister, Aleksandar Vulin, is expected and the attendance of the Russian President, Vladimir Putin, is not ruled out.

The meeting precedes the summits of the emerging group, which traditionally address issues relevant to national, regional and international security, as well as on the most promising guidelines for cooperation in this area.
