Venezuela participated in the 13th International Tsunami Exercise, Caribe Wave 2024, with the purpose of measuring the capacity of citizen security bodies, the National Risk Management System and the Territorial Defensive System to respond to this type of emergency.

The activity took place in the spaces of the headquarters of the Civil Protection headquarters of the state of La Guaria on KM16 of the Caracas - La Guaira highway, where a command and control post was installed, which allowed the development of the simulation to be monitored throughout the national territory.

“In this exercise carried out by 48 Caribbean countries, Venezuela has had a permanent participation since 2011,” said the Deputy Minister for Risk Management and Civil Protection, Carlos Pérez Am.

He also stressed that the Ministry of Internal Relations, Justice and Peace, through the National Risk Management System, together with national, state and municipal government entities, allow preparation and coordination for the execution of this exercise, whose purpose is to mitigate the impacts of this phenomenon.

Amadded that this practice allows states, especially coastal entities, to georeference vulnerabilities and threats, in addition to allowing them to coordinate with the Ministry of People's Power for Education and Health, such as being able to activate emergency protocols in the event of any disaster.
