Venezuela participated in the 2nd Meeting of Ministers of Defense and Foreign Affairs of the Brasilia Consensus.

The meeting was led by the Ministers of the People's Power for Foreign Affairs, Yván Gil, and Defense, Vladimir Padrino López, and was held in the “Simon Bolivar” Hall of the Foreign Ministry.

In this regard, the Chancellor said that, close to the commemoration of the bicentenary of the Battle of Ayacucho, “our ancestors managed to defeat the Spanish Empire and sealed the independence of South America. The history of Ayacucho reminds us that together as a region we would be stronger and more able to overcome any obstacle that threatens our freedom.”

“We are aware that we are under constant threat. The unilateral coercive measures, or misnamed sanctions, imposed on our nations, only seek to subdue the will of our peoples and weaken our capacity for self-determination,” he said during his speech.

The Minister for Defense assured that “we are well aware that new actions are being prepared by various international organizations that serve the interests of transnational corporations.”

“Far from promoting South American unity, it is a sad and clear demonstration of how the Brazilian Government has decided to maintain the hostile policy of (Jair) Bolsonaro that it applied to Venezuela for years (...) it is regrettable that a year after the first meeting we are very far from the objectives set,” he said.

According to information issued by the Foreign Ministry, both Venezuelan authorities stressed that the traditional policy of exclusion instructed from the north must be discarded, as evidenced by “the application of the veto to Venezuela for its entry into the BRICS.”
