From New York, the United States, the delegation of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and International Trade - as part of the agenda of the 81st session of the General Assembly of the United Nations (UN) - assured this Wednesday that, despite unilateral coercive measures and the crisis generated by the double earthquake of June 24, the country has managed to reduce significantly the levels of food insecurity to around 5.3%.

During his participation in the high-level event “Four Years Remain: Accelerating Measures against Hunger and Poverty”, he specified that this progress commits the Venezuelan State to continue strengthening domestic production, agri-food systems and social protection policies to “make food sovereignty a full reality”.

The Venezuelan delegation emphasized that, in order to continue moving towards the eradication of hunger and poverty, unilateral coercive measures must be lifted in order to contribute to the liberation of productive capacities, facilitate access to sources of finance and allow greater resources to be allocated to food, social protection and development.

Under this narrative, the national representation ruled that South-South, North-South and triangular cooperation can contribute -among other things- to sharing everything from public policies to solutions adapted to the realities of peoples, and Venezuela is willing to work with the Global Alliance and with all the countries of the United Nations, considering that eradicate hunger and poverty is not just a goal, but a shared responsibility.
