A Venezuelan delegation is participating in the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP17) in Armenia to raise the voice of ecosocialism and defend environmental sovereignty and the rights of Mother Earth.

At the event that takes place from October 19 to 30, the world evaluates Armenia's compliance with the Global Biodiversity Framework.

In this sense, the Ministry of People's Power for Ecosocialism participates to ensure that international funding mechanisms are fair, direct and respect the sovereignty of megadiverse peoples.

The Venezuelan delegation takes a clear position to Armenia: Demand that global funds directly finance true guardians of nature, such as indigenous peoples and Communal Ecosocialist Movements, without bureaucratic intermediaries.

Venezuela, for its part, demonstrates the protection of biodiversity through the preservation of sacred fauna such as the Orinoco Cayman, the Arrau Turtle and the promotion of national plans for reforestation and watershed conservation.

The Minister of Popular Power for Ecosocialism, Nelson Rodríguez, stressed that Venezuela successfully exceeds the global goal 30×30, which implies that the country has more than 30% of its land territory under protection schemes.

During the working days held in Yerevan, Armenia, Rodríguez highlighted the importance of environmental education, public awareness and integration between biological and cultural diversity, aspects in which he pointed to the ancient wisdom of Venezuelan indigenous communities, whose way of life is vital for the protection of ecosystems.

In the area of international cooperation, Minister Rodríguez held a bilateral meeting with the Secretary General of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), Ivonne Higuero, who congratulated the country for having a legal framework classified in the highest category, which guarantees robust protection of biodiversity from the Constitution to organic laws.

In addition, at the meeting, they agreed to fully incorporate Venezuela into the Standing Committee to be held in the coming days in the city of Geneva, Switzerland. This step represents a new international recognition of the national government's environmental management.
