Venezuela congratulates Uruguay on the Bicentenary of its Independence: Historic and glorious milestone

The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela congratulated the People and Government of the Eastern Republic of Uruguay on Monday, as the Bicentenary of the Declaration of Independence was commemorated.

In a statement, released by Foreign Minister Yván Gil, the Bolivarian Government emphasized that “this historic and glorious milestone was a worthy response to the insolence of foreign powers that sought to bend the will of the peoples.”

The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela expresses its most fraternal congratulations to the brother people and government of the Eastern Republic of Uruguay, on the commemoration of the Bicentennial of the Declaration of its Independence, that glorious 25 August 1825 in which the Eastern Province proclaimed its emancipation from all foreign power and affirmed its union with the United Provinces of the Rio de la Plata.

That historic and glorious milestone was a worthy response to the insolence of foreign powers that sought to bend the will of the peoples. The emancipatory feat of the heroic José Gervasio Artigas and of the Eastern people is part of the continental epic that, together with Bolívar, San Martín, Sucre and so many liberators, forged the emancipation of Our America and sowed forever the vocation of independence, sovereignty and unity.

Today, two hundred years after that feat, the challenges of the present call us once again to unity. Just as our peoples rose up from foreign domination in the 19th century, now it is up to us, with the same political and patriotic height, to embrace each other in brotherhood to face the hegemonic pretensions that seek to divide us and stop our march towards a multipolar world of justice, peace and dignity.

From the Homeland of Bolivar, Venezuela reaffirms its unwavering commitment to accompany the noble Uruguayan people on this glorious date and to work together to consolidate Latin American and Caribbean integration, the self-determination of peoples and the construction of the Great Homeland dreamed of by our liberators.
