The Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela condemned this Tuesday the cyber attack perpetrated by the Zionist regime of Israel against Lebanon, which left 12 people killed and more than 2,800 injured in the south of the country, due to the explosion of portable locators, known as pagers.

The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela strongly condemns the cyberattack perpetrated by Israel against the inhabitants of southern Lebanon, Beirut and its surroundings, on September 17, 2024, which left at least 12 people dead and 2800 injured, including His Excellency Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran accredited to the Lebanese Republic, H.E. Mojtaba Amani, as a result of simultaneous explosions in portable locators for personal use. This type of practice, which generates violence, fatalities and destruction, also causes panic and anxiety among the defenceless civilian population. This attack, articulated through a sophisticated method of terror and intimidation against the population, is in addition to the abhorrent techniques used by hostile governments in the dangerous and growing escalation of political and military tension in the Middle East.

Venezuela, in accordance with its historical position as a promoter of peace and the defense of the right to life, warns that the silence of the international community in the face of the perverse and systematic violation of the principles contemplated in international humanitarian law and the non-compliance with the provisions of all international laws and conventions, by regimes that stimulate terrorism, only fuels the pretensions of those who want to trigger a dangerous escalation of violence with unimaginable consequences in the region.

The Bolivarian Government expresses its sincerest feelings of closeness to the Lebanese People and Government for such an unfortunate event, while expressing a message of encouragement and solidarity to the families of the victims and injured. We reiterate our confidence in the promotion of genuine dialogue for the resolution of differences and in the fraternal ties that unite the peoples of the world, as fundamental tools for the maintenance of peace and the well-being of our nations.
