This Friday, November 06, the
President of the Republic, Delcy Rodríguez, accompanied the
wreath-giving ceremony that took place in Caracas as part of the
commemorative activities for the 250th anniversary of the United States Declaration of Independence.
“We join the joy of the United States
for its 250 years of Independence,” said the president, also
noting the reopening of George Washington Square, located in the El
Paraíso parish of the capital city, as part of the activities.
He also stressed that the reopening of
the square constitutes a recognition of the leadership and historical legacy of the
first American president. In addition, he recalled that 2026 marks 191
years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Venezuela and the United
States.
The head of state also referred to
the influence of the American independence movement on the
emancipatory processes of Latin America and recalled that Simón Bolívar found in that
experience a way to promote the independence and sovereignty of the peoples of the region.
“Simón Bolívar saw in his emancipatory
independence feat a path also for the peoples of our
America to be independent, sovereign peoples,” said Rodríguez, who
highlighted the importance of the presence of boys and girls in the activity, considering
that new generations must know the history and heroes of his country, as well as that of other nations.
For his part, the chargé d'affaires of the United
States, John Barrett, expressed his satisfaction with the tribute to
Washington and extended thanks to President Rodríguez and the
Venezuelans for this act.
“We are proud of this statue of George Washington, who was our liberator, our leader, very similar to Simon Bolivar,” said Barrett, recalling that a statue of our Father of the Fatherland Simon Bolivar was also inaugurated in Washington.
