Venezuela-Colombia Parliamentary Friendship Group evaluates border situation

The Venezuela-Colombia Parliamentary Friendship Group (GAP) and representatives of the Ministry of Popular Power for Foreign Affairs met this Wednesday to evaluate the binational border situation.

From the Federal Legislative Palace, the president of GAP, Deputy Julio Chávez, said that the meeting was held with the objective of deploying itself on different fronts of work.

In addition, the participants addressed comprehensive issues to favor both countries with a strategic plan, and agreed to begin working on the revision of treaties, agreements and regulations, depending on the time and the situation, to adapt them and strengthen legal instruments.

The deputy also explained that they will continue to analyze migration issues, academic and scientific exchanges, between universities, in order to approve the accreditation of degrees and to be able to settle the debt with Venezuelan professors who serve as teachers in Colombia without being recognized as incumbents.

Another agreement established during the meeting is the incorporation of binational meetings of Colombian-Venezuelan women of African descent in homage to Piedad Córdoba, as well as meetings with workers, in cultural, artistic, musical and sports matters, with the purpose of reconstructing, improving and consolidating relations between the parliaments of both countries.

The parliamentarian added that there are legal laws that must be adapted between both countries, such as the issue of Venezuelan children who are in Colombian territory, as well as exchanges between the governors of Venezuela and Colombia.

The president of the Venezuela-Colombia Parliamentary Friendship Group stated that they will accept each of the agreements presented. In addition, he said that the first vice-president of the National Assembly will be invited to approve the information, and to be able to incorporate other deputies and commissions.

Finally, he indicated that they will ask the Colombian Parliament to define their Colombia-Venezuela Parliamentary Friendship Group to present and address the issues raised.
