Venezuela celebrates Russian Language Day and Pushkin's birthday

On the occasion of celebrating the International Day of the Russian Language and the 255th anniversary of the birth of the Russian poet and playwright, Aleksandr Pushkin, the accredited Russian ambassador to Venezuela, Sergey Mélik-Bagdasárov, made a floral offering before the bust of this distinguished writer, in Caracas.

The protocol ceremony took place in Ezequiel Zamora Park, located in El Calvario, with the presence of the general director of the Office of the Deputy Minister for Europe of the Ministry of People's Power for Foreign Affairs, Darwin Bordier; the president of FUNDAPATRIMONIO, María Elisa Domínguez, officials of the Venezuelan Foreign Ministry, and Embassy and Russian activists.

Ambassador Mélik-Bagdasárov assured that the International Day of the Russian Language is included in the international calendar of important dates of the United Nations (UN), within the framework of the Multilingual Development and Cultural Diversity Program.

He explained that he is convinced that “the celebration of the Russian Language Day, dedicated to the anniversary of the great poet, will serve to develop interstate humanitarian cooperation and maintain an atmosphere of friendship and trust between peoples.”

The Russian community living in the country paid homage by reciting poems and a theatrical performance of their most illustrious works. The Embassy also awarded medals of recognition for such valuable collaboration in the installation of the bust and the preservation of space.

Aleksandr Pushkin was a poet, novelist and critic; considered to be one of the fundamental pillars on which the modern culture of the Eurasian nation is structured. He is valued as the best Russian poet of all time and the father of modern Russian literature.
