The general coordinator of the Venezuela Nuestra Campaign Command, Jorge Rodríguez, denounced hate crimes against the opposition mayor of Barinas, Pedro Abreu, after declaring himself independent and expressing his support for the candidate and current president of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro.

“Here is the mayor's experiential testimony, it is an experiential testimony and in that testimony they establish that a 'political' group that always resorts to violence, that if you have this skin color and you feel like it, they burn you alive, that they cut their throats on motorised vehicles (...) that same sector now dares to threaten in the purest style of Colombian paramilitarism marking the house, which then they will burn,” Rodríguez explained at a press conference.

In this regard, he urged the panel of experts of the United Nations (UN) to express their rejection. “We expect action on the part of the Carter Center and on the part of the United Nations panel of experts, on the part of all electoral observers who come to the Venezuelan election to reject violence and also to investigate,” he said.

Rodríguez asked them to observe carefully that there is a sector that wants to go to the elections on July 28 in peace and there is another sector that wants to go for violence. “The street is speaking in a splendid way, the street is already speaking in a way that they cannot hide it,” he emphasized.
