The Deputy Minister for Latin America of the Ministry
of Popular Power for Foreign Affairs, Rander Peña, held a technical working meeting this
Tuesday with the Undersecretary for
Latin America and the Caribbean of the Mexican Foreign Ministry, Laura Elena Carrillo.
As part of the visit of the senior official to
commemorate the bicentenary of the appointment of the Liberator Simon Bolivar
as a Mexican citizen, both diplomats reviewed the
cooperation map between the Aztec nation and the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela,
while considering the reactivation of the Permanent Binational Commission (COBIPER), as a strategy that integrates everything related to relations between
these
countries.
In this regard, the Deputy Minister for Latin America
explained that COBIPER is composed of four subcommissions or working
groups, which regulate political, financial, economic and cooperation issues.
He also added that a number of
issues were prioritized within the framework of the review of the cooperation map, specifically those
referring to security, defense, air, commercial, diplomatic,
educational, youth and sports connectivity.
Last Sunday, authorities of the pair of nations
commemorated the 200th anniversary of the granting of Mexican nationality to the
Liberator Simon Bolivar. In this regard, the Minister of Popular Power for Foreign
Relations, Yván Gil, specified that “it is a privilege to commemorate
the friendship and historic ties between Venezuela and Mexico on this bicentenary
of the recognition of Simon Bolivar as a Mexican citizen by the
Constituent Congress of Mexico, on March 17, 1824, in honor of his independence legacy in the continent.”
