Venezuela and Mexico pay tribute to Benito Juárez 218 years after his birth

As part of the 218th anniversary of the birth of Mexican leader Benito Juárez, a wreath ceremony was held in Caracas this Thursday at the monument of the jurist, politician and former president of Mexico.

From Mexico Avenue in the Venezuelan capital, the event was chaired by the ambassador of the United Mexican States accredited to Venezuela, Leopoldo de Gyves de la Cruz, accompanied by the Deputy Minister for Latin America of the Ministry of Popular Power for Foreign Affairs, Rander Peña, and staff of the Aztec Diplomatic Mission in the country.

“We pay homage to Benito Juárez, the great reformer of the Mexican State, but he also knew how to lead the defense of national sovereignty against foreign intervention,” said the Ambassador during the activity.

He highlighted that Juárez had the example of many Latin American heroes, such as that of the Liberator Simon Bolivar, “of whom we are now celebrating the bicentenary of having been appointed Mexican citizen by the Constituent Congress of Mexico, for the unity of the peoples of Latin America and the Caribbean.”

During the ceremony, both diplomats honored the Meritorious of the Americas, guarding for several minutes.
