The Deputy Minister for Asia, the Middle East and Oceania of the Ministry of People's Power for Foreign Affairs, Tatiana Pugh, met this Wednesday with the ambassador of the Republic of India accredited to Venezuela, Shri P. K. Ashok Babu, in order to strengthen ties of friendship and joint cooperation in strategic areas such as energy, agronomy, health and culture.

From the “Antonio José de Sucre” Yellow House in Caracas, the Venezuelan diplomat transmitted to Babu the current political and social context of the country, in the context of the victory of the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro Moros, in the election of last July 28, which was marked by its democratic nature.

The parties also discussed the geostrategic importance of the expansion of the BRICS group and, as a result, Venezuela once again reiterated its willingness to become a full member of this block of emerging countries, with the firm objective of strengthening the growth of their economies and South-South cooperation.

Venezuela and India established diplomatic relations on October 1, 1959. With the State visit of the then Venezuelan President, Hugo Chávez, to New Delhi, between March 4 and 7, 2005, an important boost was given to the bilateral relationship, with the signing of six Agreements/Memoranda of Understanding, including those relating to the creation of a Joint Commission and the establishment of cooperation in the hydrocarbons sector.

On July 3rd, Foreign Minister Yván Gil met with Ambassador Ashok Babu and they discussed key issues, such as the development of “alternative energies, trade, investment” and, of course, Caracas' priority interest in joining BRICS+.
