The Minister of Popular Power for Science and Technology, Yván Gil, reported that researchers from the Institute for Advanced Studies Foundation (IDEA) developed a biocatalytic system that combines microalgae and bacteria to promote the biodegradation of polyaromatic compounds, as an alternative to hydrocarbon pollution.

The project, funded by the National Fund for Science, Technology and Innovation (FONACIT), managed to increase the degradation of substances such as naphthalene, phenanthrene and pyrene, evidencing their potential for environmental protection and public health, Gil said in his Telegram account.

With this development, Venezuelan science is making progress in biotechnological alternatives to address environmental problems, within the framework of the policies of the Bolivarian Government aimed at generating scientific solutions for the care of the environment and the well-being of the population.
