The city of Valencia, capital of the state of Carabobo, celebrates 466 years since it was founded by Alonso Díaz Moreno, on March 25, 1555, due to the need to replace the population of Borburata, which is constantly besieged by pirates.

The first name given to it was Nueva Valencia del Rey, later renamed Our Lady of the Annunciation of the New Valencia del Rey, to later assign it the name it still has: Valencia.

This city has been the protagonist of important events that marked history in the Independence of Venezuela, one of these being the Battle of Carabobo, where heroes of the country fought on June 24, 1821 to seal the nation's freedom.

Valencia was the country's capital on three occasions: in 1812, when the public powers of the provisional Government moved there during the country's War of Independence; in 1830, when Gran Colombia dissolved; and in 1858, when the March Revolution triumphed.
