Federal judge James Boasberg described the latest response from the Donald Trump administration in the United States (USA) regarding the deportation flights of Venezuelan migrants kidnapped in El Salvador as regrettably and insufficient.
The magistrate had previously ordered the temporary suspension of these deportations, and in this regard he demanded that the government explain why it failed to comply with its court order to return the planes that were already in the air.
After an intense debate about the limits of executive power and judicial independence that dates back to the Trump administration's decision to invoke the Foreign Enemies Act, an 18th century regulation, to deport hundreds of Venezuelan migrants.
Last weekend's deportation went to the Terrorism Detention Center (CECOT), the flagship prison of El Salvador's violent anti-crime strategy. This is a mega-prison where visitors, outings or education are not allowed.
Human rights organizations report that at least 261 people have lost their lives in Salvadoran prisons in recent years and report multiple cases of abuse, torture and lack of medical care.
