On November 1, 1600, the first revolutionary movement of the Zulians against the Spanish took place in Gibraltar, in the state of Zulia: the uprising of the Quiriquires Indians. This indigenous ethnic group kept this important Zulian population under their absolute rule for seventeen years and they repelled the Spanish government, until they were subdued by a betrayal.

This event is considered to be the first of the eleven revolutionary movements that the Zuliano people led against European invaders.

The importance of this uprising lies in the protection that the Indians made with this strategic territory, which for years was out of Spanish power.
