On November 16, 1945, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) was founded, entering into force in November 1946, after the ratification of the creation document by 20 signatory countries.

UNESCO aims to work to create conditions conducive to a dialogue between civilizations, cultures and peoples, based on respect for common values. It also contributes to the preservation of peace and global security, by promoting cooperation between nations through education, science, culture, communication and information.

The Organization has 195 Member States and 9 Associate Members. The latter are territories or groups of territories that do not themselves assume the conduct of their foreign relations. It is headquartered in Paris and also has more than 50 offices away from Headquarters.

It was born from the ashes of the Second World War when, in November 1945, a United Nations conference was held in London, just at the end of the war, to establish an educational and cultural organization.
