The first vice-president of the United Socialist
Party of Venezuela (PSUV), Diosdado Cabello, during the party's usual press conference, assured that “the choice of candidates for the upcoming elections
will be subject to the Constitution; and in the case of the ruling party to what is stipulated in the Red Book”.
In this regard, he explained that “the
candidates of the PSUV will be men and
women with some conditions already determined, such as: being Venezuelans, revolutionaries,
anti-imperialists, defenders of the legacy of Supreme Commander Hugo Chávez, of
ethical and moral recognition.”
According to the Red Book of the PSUV,
aspiring candidates from Chavism “must be characterized by their socialist
approach to social justice, equality and the redistribution of wealth. During
the administration of Commander Chávez, policies such as the
renationalization of the oil industry, the expansion of
social programs and the promotion of citizen participation were implemented.” These measures were
supported by many Venezuelans, who identified with the aspirations and
ideals of Chavism.”
Chavism has had strong
support among the popular classes, especially those who
benefited from the social programs implemented during its term of office, such as
the Barrio Adentro Mission, the Robinson Mission and the Housing Mission. These
initiatives seek to improve the living conditions of the most
disadvantaged sectors of the population, providing health care, education and
free housing at affordable prices.
In addition, Chavism has also
had support in other sectors, such as workers, unions, peasants and marginalized
sectors of Venezuelan society. Chávez joined the party as
defenders of the rights of the poor and they promoted an agenda of
social justice, national independence and anti-imperialism.
The political vision from the
perspective of Chavism consists of advocating a participatory and
leading democracy, in addition to the construction of a political system, which promotes the active
collaboration of communities and the decentralization of power.
They consider that political power should be in the hands of the people and seek to
strengthen citizen participation in decision-making, through spaces
such as communes and communal councils.
From an economic point of view,
Chavism has promoted a policy based on 21st century socialism, which
implies greater state intervention in the economy and a redistribution of
wealth through social programs and policies of inclusion. Chavism
has sought to diversify Venezuelan income, reducing its dependence on
oil and encouraging domestic production in sectors such as agriculture, industry and tourism.
From the social sphere,
Chavism has prioritized the reduction of poverty and inequality. Massive social programs have been
implemented, with the objective of improving the living
conditions of the most vulnerable sectors of Venezuelan society.
In addition, Chavism has defended policies of social
inclusion and recognition of the rights of indigenous peoples,
women and other historically marginalized communities. They have sought to empower
these groups and ensure their active participation in society.
This is why, from the PSUV, candidates committed to this policy that guarantees peace, security and the good life of the People will be chosen from the grassroots.
