The United Nations (UN) estimated that more than 20 million people have been affected by the 7.7 earthquake that occurred in Myanmar.

The UN coordinator in Myanmar, Marcoluigi Corsi, reported that the damage is extensive, with more than 1,600 lives lost and thousands of people injured.

In addition, there has been damage to almost 1,700 homes, 670 monasteries, 60 schools and three bridges. These data are alarming and reflect the magnitude of the disaster.

For its part, the Myanmar military junta reported the collapse of 2,600 buildings, including residences, churches and schools.

The UN called for global solidarity and resource mobilization to support the people of Myanmar.
