The Secretary General of the United Nations (UN), António Guterres, said that he is willing to provide his mediation services if necessary in the conflict with Ukraine, said the deputy spokesman of the head of the world organization, Farhan Haq, according to TASS.
“There have been no calls recently, but the Secretary General has made it clear to several representatives that the UN wishes to provide its mediation services if this suits the parties. As you know, in the case of Russia and Ukraine, it has done so in the past, even in the case of the Black Sea cereals initiative several years ago, and would like to do it again if conditions permit,” said the spokesman.
On March 18, the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, and his American counterpart, Donald Trump, discussed by telephone the situation in Ukraine, the conditions to avoid an escalation and a series of international issues.
According to the Kremlin, Putin has agreed with the American leader's proposal that the warring parties in Ukraine renounce each other's attacks on energy infrastructure facilities for 30 days.
According to the White House, the parties also agreed to start technical talks on the introduction of a “ceasefire in the Black Sea, a complete ceasefire and a permanent peace.”
Senator Grigori Karasin and the advisor to the director of the Federal Security Service (FSB) Sergey Beseda will lead the Russian delegation in the talks between Russia and US think tanks. They will talk about the Black Sea Initiative, Russian presidential advisor Yuri Ushakov announced.
