The coordinator of the United Nations in Venezuela, Gianluca Rampolla, assured that this organization has found no restrictions to operate, referring to complaints against the Bolivarian Government regarding alleged obstacles to accessing affected areas and delivering humanitarian aid.
In an interview with the news agency N+ Univision, Rampolla explained that the organization works in coordination with the Venezuelan authorities, after the Government itself requested their support from the first hours of the emergency.
Regarding criticism for the slow pace of some rescues, he argued that the magnitude of the disaster makes it impossible to attend to the more than a thousand affected buildings at the same time.
Rampolla also rejected doubts about the official numbers of dead, missing and injured that the president of the General Staff for the Creation of Transitional Camps, Jorge Rodríguez, provides daily .
He also defended the neutrality with which the UN works.
