The United Nations (UN) expressed concern about the trade war launched by the United States (USA) through new tariffs that could impose taxes on the most vulnerable countries and on the sustainable development goals, as announced this Friday by the agency's spokesman, Stéphane Dujarric.
“In a trade war, no one wins. Our concern right now is that the most vulnerable countries are the least prepared for the current situation,” Dujarric said, according to Sputnik on his website.
The statements were made during a briefing regarding the U.S. decision to impose a base tariff of 10 percent, and in some cases more, on all its imports as of April 5.
The President of the United States, Donald Trump, announced last Wednesday the introduction of “reciprocal” tariffs on imports from other countries, after decades of abuse by allies and competitors.
The Trump administration reported that it will impose a minimum tariff of 10 percent on all imports starting April 5, with higher tariffs for countries with which the United States has the largest trade deficits since April 9.
