UN condemns Israeli attack on Iranian embassy in Damascus

The Secretary General of the United Nations (UN), Antonio Guterres, condemned the Israeli attack on the consular section of the embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Damascus, the capital of Syria.

“The Secretary-General reaffirms that the principle of inviolability of premises and of diplomatic and consular personnel must be respected in all cases in accordance with international law,” said United Nations spokesman Stephane Dujarric.

In addition, Dujarric stressed that Guterres urged all parties to exercise maximum restraint and avoid further escalation.

He further warned that any miscalculation could lead to a wider conflict in an already unstable region, with devastating consequences for civilians.
