Hanthony Coello, president of the Venezuelan Basketball Federation, celebrated the official presentation of the U-21 Basketball Development League, which will begin on March 28 in various states of Venezuela.
“This will have regulations for U19 players and also for U23 players, it is the development league as a space that we need between 18 and 23 years of age to give continuity to those players who do not make the leap to the professional, so there is a kind of gap between those ages,” he said.
The championship will include the participation of 20 teams from different states, an initiative promoted by the Venezuelan Basketball Federation (FVB) with the objective of promoting the development of young talent.
During the press conference, José Gregorio Pineda, president of the League, stated that the event will bring together the best players from emerging categories and will emerge as one of the best sporting spectacles of the discipline in the country.
“We have worked on development before, such as with the Junior Super League, and that generation has boosted these young people that we present today,” said Pineda. He also noted that, although the initial plan covered the entire country, this edition will focus on five states in the central region.
La Liga will have a regular phase with five groups of four teams each: Group A in the capital area, Group B in Miranda, Group C in the central zone (Aragua and Carabobo), Group D in the West, and a bracket that includes Barinas and Portuguesa. The first two in each group will advance to a new group stage, and the best teams will reach the Final Four, which will be played in Caracas.
The U-21 Basketball Development League is positioned as a fundamental platform for the promotion of young talent in Venezuela, to provide opportunities for emerging athletes, coaches and referees. This emblematic project, promoted by the FVB, not only seeks to consolidate sports development in the country, but also to establish the basis for a generation of professionals who can excel in national and international basketball.
