A first earthquake of magnitude 5.1 occurred this Monday, October 26, in the Vanuatu Islands at a depth of 24.9 kilometers, followed by a second earthquake of equal magnitude at a depth of 21.4 kilometers. Both events occurred at 04:53 local time, according to preliminary data from seismological organisms.

The archipelago of Vanuatu is located in the so-called Pacific Fire Belt, one of the regions with the highest seismic and volcanic activity on the planet due to the continuous interaction of tectonic plates, as reported by Telesur.

Local authorities reported that they are collecting reports from the population to assess the situation after the seismic movements. So far, no material damage or human casualties have been reported in the affected area.

The competent agencies indicated that no tsunami warning has been issued after both events. Institutions closely monitor the behavior of seismic activity to rule out possible aftershocks in the coming hours.
