This Friday, at least two people died and 222 others were injured in a large fire caused by a gas explosion in the Kenyan capital.

The information was provided by the Government spokesman, Isaac Mwaura, who detailed the fire that began around 23:30 local time on Thursday (20:30 GMT), was caused by a truck loaded with gas cylinders that exploded, igniting a huge fireball that spread to a warehouse and a nearby neighborhood.

In this regard, the spokesman pointed out that a gas cylinder that was ejected after the explosion hit a clothing and textile warehouse, setting it on fire.

He added that the fire also damaged several vehicles and commercial properties, including many small and medium-sized businesses, in the Embakasi neighborhood.

“Unfortunately, residential houses in the neighborhood also burned down, with many residents still inside because it was late at night,” Mwaura said.

For his part, the commander of the Embakasi Police, Wesley Kimeto, confirmed the death toll, saying that an adult and a minor had died in the hospital and that the number of victims could increase.
