Ukraine's attack on Russia with six long-range ballistic missiles increases the risk of a nuclear conflict, said the president of Türkiye, Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
“There is nothing positive in a conflict where nuclear weapons are used. The missiles used by Ukraine show what this approach will lead to,” said the Turkish head of state, in information collected by the Telesur portal.
Erdogan stressed that his country maintains its position in the face of these negative aspects and takes steps to guarantee peace, while assuring that he hopes that the situation will evolve rapidly towards it.
He also reflected on the issue of Russia's updated nuclear doctrine, and categorized it as a response measure that the North Atlantic Organization (NATO) should take into account, while insisting that Moscow has the strength and the means to protect itself.
“In the same way, we (NATO) must protect ourselves and take steps to protect ourselves. Ukraine and Russia are our neighbors, and we must protect our relations with them. I hope we can reach a ceasefire and establish peace as soon as possible,” Erdogan said.
Meanwhile, local media reported that Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree approving the country's updated nuclear doctrine, which states, among other things, that a massive attack on the country, including an attack with cruise missiles and drones, could generate a nuclear response.
