Three-day strike begins in Haiti amid growing wave of violence

A three-day general strike was called starting this Monday by various Haitian organizations to denounce the wave of violence that the Caribbean nation is experiencing, in addition to demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Ariel Henry.

Most activities in the metropolitan region and in some provincial cities, such as Gonaïves and Les Cayes, were considerably delayed, while school activities are completely paralyzed as a result of the strike, according to TELESUR on its website.

During the day, incidents involving burned tires have been reported on Martin Luther King Avenue, in Port-au-Prince, causing traffic disturbances, which are blocked on National Route 3, in Peligre, and on National Route 7, in Roseau, where a traffic interruption was reported early in the morning, further complicating travel.

The call was made by the Anti-Corruption Trade Union Brigade (BSAC) last Thursday, and other organizations such as the Haitian Teachers' Unions Platform and several transport unions expressed their support and support.

As a result, the call was extended to the general population to express their opposition to the difficult security situation in the country, which is dominated by criminal gangs.
